Yesterday I went out into the back yard to hang up some washing and water the veggie garden, and look what I noticed…
Now, I am out in my back yard every day, so I find it unusual that I haven’t noticed this before. Perhaps it sprung up over night? It’s a petunia. And you may well be wondering where the heck I’m going with this, but wait… I’ve never planted a petunia in my garden before, AND it’s growing in between a teeny tiny crack in the paving. Now I don’t know about you, but it stopped me in my tracks…
I mean – what does a petunia seed even look like? It must have blown in from somewhere (self-sowing petunias?) and happened upon this cozy little teen tiny crack with hardly any soil at all inside and though to itself “oh , this looks like the perfect place to put down roots!”
So yes, I’m quite gobsmacked really and full of admiration for this gutsy little fella. And then it got me a-thinkin’ about perhaps it might be the universe quietly sharing one of its secrets with me. You know, a little life lesson? This little guy doesn’t have much of a home (I mean, compared to other petunias in the neighborhood one ,ay say at first glance he’s doing it tough) but he sure looks happy and is (at the moment) thriving in his environment.
And so it is, that I am now humbled by a small petunia plant. I am once again checking and reminding myself that true happiness is in moments spent with loved ones, in feeling alive and grateful for this opportunity to live and breathe and walk and run and dance. To have dear friends, a place to call home and food in the fridge. Clean running water, a flushing toilet and petrol in the car. To have children to laugh and play with and grow old with. It’s not about things, but about people isn’t it?! About experiences and memories we carve out, with people. About seeing the joy and love and life in everyday things and just being grateful for what I have right here, right now…
Thankyou universe for this little gentle reminder today.
Today, I am greatful.

And thats why you are so awesome! Gratitude for a petunia growing in a crack… Thats how we should all be my friend… Suddenly finding that our path is strewn with flowers…
I am grateful for you,
Big love to you,

How good is that….the seed falling in the good soil, will produce. Your words are so true, Donna. There’s a frightening under current in modern life, it swoops people up and entangles them in this materialistic web. And it seems these blinkers over our eyes enlarge and then we miss. I love to see the most simple and yet so enormously stimulating occurences, like this one, to remind me to strip it all back and focus only on the little ones i love….have a great weekend…
So true … Amen!
Gorgeous reflection Donna…How blessed are you to have such a vision. thanks for sharing
